The brief was simple: “Black Samba”, that’s it. Now go and make a brand out of it.
We thought a surf brand could be a good choice given the name, so we started by analysing possible competitors and what they did.
We quickly discovered that surf brands usually focus more on function rather than form, so our goal was clear: make surfboards that no one else was making.
The focus was on Brazilian traditions, looks and words.
We studied the samba dance, so that we could build the brand from there.
We came up with four different surfboards, but we didn’t stop there: merch, collaborations with brazilian brands, clothes and accessories were designed to make it look as beautiful and colorful as Brazil.
Everything is dancing, everything is colorful.
Our surfboards have a name: from Carioca’s Flow to Gafieira’s Bustle, from Rocinha’s Party to Night Samba.
These names play on brazilian traditions, places and nature. They all help with making the brand more local and more genuine.
